Self Portraits: (in progress)

Students learned about famous artists that create portraits; Chuck Close~ Photo-realist and Leonardo DaVinci~ one of the first artist to study facial proportions.
They also learned about correct facial proportions and measurements, integrating math skills. Other skills practiced and reinforced; symmetry, value, balance, highlights and shadows.


Expressive Vincent van Gogh inspired landscapes

Focusing on the life of Vincent van Gogh, Impressionism, visual texture, expressive lines and the 4 main ways to show depth.

The Mural is now on display!

Congratulations to all 320 middle school students who helped create the four panel canvas mural, the results are stunning and I am so very proud of you all!
The mural is now hanging in the front entry way of EEMS, please come in and check it out!

Creative Halloween Costumes

Here are some of the creative handmade Halloween costumes that I saw Thursday!

SCHOOL MURAL! (In progress)

This past week the 5th-8th grade students started a mural project, that will hang in the front entry way of EEMS.  All 320 students are contributing to the mural and we all are very excited to add some color and creativity to our beautiful school!!
The theme is the four seasons in Maine.
The mural is still in progress... I will post photos of the final product soon.

6th Grade students hard at work

Painting their Vincent van Gogh inspired landscapes, applying the 4 main ways to show depth in a landscape painting.



October Art Lessons!

5th Grade still life paintings- focusing on the use of complementary colors, observation/fine motor skills and the style of Vincent van Gogh (short brush strokes and expressive curvy lines)
7th Grade color theory lesson- focusing on tinting a hue and positive/negative space.
8th Grade color theory lesson- focused on the German paper art form of Scherenschnitte and tinting a hue gradually.

5th grade: Georgia O'Keeffe inspired flowers (focusing on organic shapes and complementary colors)
6th grade: Vincent van Gogh inspired sunflowers (focusing on visual texture, expressive lines and the life/style of van Gogh)
7th & 8th grade: Abstract Animals (focusing on Pablo Picasso's abstract style, changing elements of design and creative thinking skills)

Welcome back Ellsworth Middle School students and families!!

I am so excited to start a new school year full of creative thinking, art making and artistic learning in the art room!

Over the summer, I got married and my new name is Mrs. Weise (pronounced "Weezy"... I realize my new last name can be difficult to remember, so you are welcome to call me Mrs. W as well.

Happy end of the school year!

Poster contest

Congratulations to Rory B. from Mr. Lock's 5h grade class, for winning the Ellsworth 250th anniversary poster contest, I am so proud of you!

These adorable owls were made using low fire clay, colored with oil pastels and dipped in india ink for a resist technique.
